Six Sipitang issues need urgent attention – Matbali

Kota Kinabalu: Water, education, health, telecommunication coverage, road and river bank erosion as well as road widening are vital issues that needs to be level-up by the government in Sipitang and nearby areas.

Raising these issues in his debate speech in the Dewan Rakyat Monday, Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah urge the relevant ministries, agencies and departments to give special attention to the issues for the good of all.

“People in Sipitang are facing water supply problem that calls for upgrading of its water treatment plant. The clean water supply project in Beaufort needs to be level-up to allow people in Lumadan enjoy quality and safe water,” he said.

He added: ”The upgrading of the Beaufort water treatment plant would obviously mean residents in Bangkalalak, Mintulud, Suasa, Bintuka, Padas Damir and Jabang and other surrounding areas will enjoy better services and their water problem will be a thing of the past If not totally addressed.

On education, Matbali noticed that there is also a need to rehabilitate the poor structural condition of some Primary and secondary schools in the area apart from the need to establish a secondary school in Long Pasia.

“Long Pasia is also the ‘pearl of Sipitang’ because its geographical position has the potential to develop as another major tourist attraction for Sabah.

“This place needs to be connected to the telecommunication system for the convenience of residents, government officials and visitors,” he said.

Hence, the lawmaker added that he hope the Communications and Multimedia Commission ministry  (MCMV) will build more transmitter towers in the area, particularly in Long Pasia, Melihan, Iburu and Ulu Bole.

“Other things that I need in my area of responsibility, is the construction of skills training centre for Sipitang.

“Such facility is in dire need to help promote Technical and Vocational Training and Education (TVET)”, he said, adding he is also requesting the government to address the erosion of the roads and river banks of Sungai Padas.
