Study history of Dusun, youths told

RANAU: The young generation of Dusuns is called to study the history of their culture so it is not lost to time.

“The young generation need to know the history, including traditional heritage in terms of sports, clothing, culture (dance) and musical instruments for future generations,” MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin said.

He said this when launching the Nunuk Ragang Monument Traditional Dress in Kg Tampios, recently. He also commended the organising committee.

“The Parliament office in Ranau is ready to provide support and assistance to hold such programmes in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nunuk Ragang Committee, Majais Gasial, said the event coincided with the “Ranau Camping Days” programme at the Nunuk Ragang Campsite.

He requested the help from Jonathan for the Executive Committee to build an Open Hall at the camp site near Sungai Liwagu, for the comfort and safety of the campers.

The event, which was held for three days, involved more than 20 participants from the districts of Ranau, Tambunan, Tamparuli, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud and Kudat who participated in various activities such as fishing competition.

In response, Jonathan said he will carry out study on the request.

“Many aspects need to be researched first before we approve and channel any funds or financial allocation,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Ranau Parliamentary People’s Service Office.

The residents and participants were entertained by a dance performance by students from SK Matupang Ranau.
