Sabah Land Development Board in war against graft

KOTA KINABALU: Some 40 risks have been identified in which 63 initiatives will be implemented on five departments through the Organisation Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB) 2023 – 2027.

SLDB General Manager Syaheddrul R Joddari said the five comprised administration, human resource, procurement, finance, and operation that would be given attention based on the OACP guideline in preventing corruption.

“The commitment and determination of SLDB personnel plays an important role in ensuring that this goal can be achieved in the war against corruption.

“The organisation will always be aware of current needs to ensure that this plan remains relevant and it will also act as a guideline and reference in efforts to strengthen governance, integrity and anti-corruption in SLDB,” he said at the launch of the Organisation Anti-Corruption Planbook and SLDB Corruption Free Pledge (IBR) 2.0 the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC), here.

Also present were SLDB Chairperson Datuk Abd Ghani Mohamed Yassin, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Director (Prevention) Alexander S. Kunghi and Chief Minister’s Department Integrity Advisor Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, among others.

Syaheddrul said all SLDB staff pledge in the war on corruption was not carried out the first time it was previously implemented in 2017 involving the organisation’s staff and contractors registered under SLDB in 2019.“IBR is a manifestation of the commitment of an organisation’s leadership.

This matter is very important to show the position of the organisation’s top management regarding integrity, good governance and corruption prevention,” he said.

Syaheddrul also said the issue of corruption needed to be emphasised by all parties, especially the front line because every job done must have room and opportunity for corruption and abuse of power to occur.

He said the enforcement alone is not sufficient which requires every employee to carry out their respective roles sincerely and hold the trust they are responsible for.

“The cooperation of all parties, especially at the highest leadership level, plays an important role in ensuring that the cursed practice can be eliminated.

“We can prepare an (anti-corruption) plan but everything depends on self-compliance and all parties need to work together to avoid this bad practice.

“Each of the service areas in this work has its own challenges in upholding and appreciating integrity. However, even if the storm hits, even if tossed by high waves, we need to ensure that integrity is still held and embedded in each of us,” he added.
