All Tahfiz must register: Minister

KOTA KINABALU: Unregistered tahfizs in Sabah must do so with the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) and Sabah Islamic Affairs Department (Jheains).

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr Arifin Mohd Arif, who is also Sabah Islamic Affairs Exco, said they are identifying more such Islamic schools.

“More than 20 have been registered and there are more pending. We estimate there are less than 100 tahfizs in Sabah.

“We are calling on all tahfizs or madrasas to register so it’s easy to address needs like this Bisbah initiative and also annual zakat distributions.

“Please refer to your district’s religious administration official or come directly to the office at Wisma Muis,” he said.

Arifin said he and a few religious officials would be visiting every district’s Education Office for groundwork.

“We are proud that a tahfiz student in Tawau was the champion for this year’s national recitals who did just one to 70 of the Quran.

“This means we are on the same level with the peninsula. I encourage Muis and Jheains to give attention to madrasas. As we build on knowledge, we can also bringSabah a good name,” he said at the Sabah State Education Aid and Excellence Award Presentation Ceremony at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Tuesday.

Some 39 students received the Sabah E-Kasih Computer Assistance (Baik) and three others were Sabah Education Excellence Award recipients.
