Speed up Tawau flood mitigation project: MP

“I think the projects to deal with floods should be implemented as soon as possible so that the people are not burdened for too long,” Andy said.

TAWAU: The State Government has been urged to speed up the Sungai Tawau Flood Mitigation (RTB) project to address the district’s perennial flood issue which affects the lives of some 20,000 residents.

Kalabakan MP Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy also urged the authorities to continue constructing the river banks as part of Phase Two of the Sungai Pasir Putih project.

“I hope the Government can continue the flood mitigation project as soon as possible. “I have gone on the ground to see the flood situation in the Kalabakan parliamentary area and found that two bridges were damaged due to strong currents.

“I think the projects to deal with floods should be implemented as soon as possible so that the people are not burdened for too long,” he said after presenting food and drink aid to flash flood victims in Kg Pasir Putih, here.

The Tanjung Batu Assemblyman said the Government, especially the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry, should not implement projects halfway as it only inconveniences the people.

“We want the people to continue to enjoy life comfortably without having to worry in the event of continuous heavy rain.

“I believe the Unity Government that listens to the people will take immediate action and issue appropriate allocations,” he said.

He explained the continuous heavy rain lasting for several hours caused many areas to be flooded, especially in Kg Tanjung Batu Keramat, Tanjung Batu Darat and Kg Pasir Putih A and B.

He said he often received the complaints from the residents who repeatedly become flood victims and had to deal with damaged furniture and electrical items in their homes.
