Tarnishing my image is an offence, says Chua

PENAMPANG: Individuals and parties who resort to assassinating other people’s character for political gain should be rejected, says Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) Penampang candidate Kenny Chua.

He said this after videos meant to tarnish his image and destroy his election campaign were circulated on social media recently.

“What they did to me only speaks of their character. I believe people don’t want this kind of individuals or parties to occupy place of leadership in society.

“If they can do this to me, they can do it to anyone. They are dangerous,” he said in a statement.

On Monday, Chua lodged a police report after an audio recording of his outburst was widely circulated via WhatsApp.

In the audio recording, Chua could be heard scolding a person who accused him of being involved in drugs.

Another showed him enjoying the company of women.

It is believed that the same tactic was used against him in the last state election when he stood in Inanam, causing him to lose.

“People behind the circulation of the audio recordings have committed a serious offence. The police and Election Commission will investigate because it is a personal attack.

“The fact that these people resorted to playing dirty only proves they are afraid of GRS’ presence in Penampang,” he said.

Chua appealed to voters to choose more pro-government Sabah Chinese candidates as their MPs.“It’s because most of the Chinese candidates that we have are in the opposition,” he said.
