Young Semporna voters seek change

SEMPORNA: Many young voters want change in Semporna.  Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the Semporna parliamentary constituency, Nixon Abdul Habi (pic), said many over 18 support GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah) to bring change in the district.

Despite facing strong competition from incumbent Parti Warisan’s Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and several other candidates, GRS foresees a tide of change to address certain aspects that are lagging behind in Semporna.

“Most of the young voters here want to migrate. They want change and their welfare to be safeguarded.  Some have come forward to meet me and give their support,” he said.

Nixon said Bersatu’s Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor’s presence in Semporna was able to influence the voters and community here to work with the State Government to bring change and development to Sabah as well as Semporna.

“The presence of the Chief Minister today in Semporna will influence the voters to some extent. Some voters were on the other side of the fence, I think now they’re on our side,” he said.

Nixon said Hajiji has already committed to a number of things, including asking the Federal Government, so that the Pulau Bum-Bum Bridge project can be revived.

“The Pulau Bum-Bum Bridge previously had no development, but the Chief Minister has given his commitment that the bridge construction project will be given attention,” he said.

He added that the Government will also consider providing ferry services to Pulau Bum-Bum for the people’s convenience.

Nixon is also confident that issues related to settlements in the Semporna would be taken into account and immediate action would be taken for mutual benefit.

Earlier, Hajiji visited Semporna and inaugurated the Wing Tat Grand Hotel in Semporna Town.

He also held a meeting with the community and supporters of candidates running for the Semporna parliamentary seat and Bugaya state seat.
