Pakatan’s assurance to Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: The new Pakatan Harapan Federal Government will not entertain any attempts to unseat the GRS-BN Sabah Government following the latter’s decision to embrace the Agong’s unity government proposal that helped to end  the deadlock in forming the new government.

It is understood that GRS was not mentioned as yet by new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his press conference because the signed documents by GRS agreeing to formally be part of the unity government were despatched to Pakatan Harapan headquarters late.

“Pakatan has given the assurance that any attempts to unseat (Chief Minister Datuk Seri) Hajiji will not be entertained or supported by any of its assemblymen in Sabah,” a top PH leader told Daily Express.

He said Federal Pakatan leaders dispatched two emissaries – Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Chan Foong Hin and Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick – to meet Hajiji on Wednesday to invite GRS to be part of the unity government at the Federal level.

He said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah would be part of the new Federal Government and PH, in return, had pledged total support for Hajiji, who is GRS Chairman, to continue as Sabah Chief Minister.

He said Pakatan’s top leadership is aware of rumours that certain quarters may spring a surprise in the State Assembly sitting starting today to propose the 2023 budget by attempting a no-confidence vote against the GRS-BN government.

“Pakatan is solidly behind Hajiji to continue as the Chief Minister. Hajiji had performed well and we want to see political stability in Sabah,” he said.

The Agong had earlier anticipated that both Borneo states would agree to be part of the unity government following Perikatan Nasional’s refusal to be included. GRS, that initially backed PN, decided to heed the King’s advice and duly informed PH leaders of the change in its stand.
