Wilfred retains Tuaran seat after court dismisses Joniston’s challenge

Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau won the Tuaran seat with a 233-vote majority in the 2022 General Election.

Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau of Pakatan Harapan component Upko retained his position as Tuaran MP after the Election Court here Thursday rejected a petition filed against him by GRS candidate Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

High Court Judge Alwi Abdul Wahab via Zoom allowed the application made by first respondent Madius and the preliminary objection raised by the Tuaran Returning Officer, the second respondent, to strike out the petition filed by Joniston, who is Kiulu assemblyman.

Joniston had also named the Election Commission as the third respondent in the petition.

The judge ordered a RM20,000 cost to be awarded to Wilfred and RM20,000 to the second and third respondents jointly.
