Guards for Karamunting Market

“MPS has hired security guards who will be monitored by the Karamunting Market’s management team. I hope this will put a stop to theft cases there,” Hiew said, Saturday.

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) has hired security guards to ensure safety at the Karamunting Market after repeated theft cases this year.

Karamunting Assemblyman George Hiew Vun Zin said it was a MPS decision after he informed it of the problem, which had caused traders to fear for the safety of their properties and items at the market.

“MPS has hired security guards who will be monitored by the Karamunting Market’s management team. I hope this will put a stop to theft cases there,” he said, Saturday.

Hiew said theft cases happened at the market this year due to lack of security personnel who were unable to guard the market for 24 hours.

“The hawkers are very concerned about the safety at the market. In the last theft incident on March 20, about 15 stalls were intruded and items stolen, causing about RM1,000 loss in total,” he said.

Hiew advised hawkers not to leave valuable items at the market and urged them to report immediately any suspicious individual at the market.
