Don’t lose sight of Sabah rights: Hajiji

Ketua Menteri berharap negara lain yang telah mengeluarkan nasihat perjalanan akan mengambil petunjuk daripada keputusan kerajaan UK.

PARTI Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) President Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor wants party members to continue to rise in the struggle to defend the fate of the people of Sabah.

The Chief Minister also reiterated his commitment to continue to stand up in the struggle to get Sabah’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution.

At the same time, he asked party members to rise to strengthen the machinery and unity, to ensure that the Gagasan Rakyat remains strong.

“Stand up against all accusations, incitement and slander, stand up to uphold truth and justice, stand up to fight for our rights and stand up to defend religion and our beloved nation,” he said in his policy speech at the Gagasan Rakyat’s first annual general meeting at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Kota Kinabalu, on Nov 13.

In his speech themed “Realising People’s Aspirations’’, Hajiji said the Gagasan Rakyat is a local party that upholds the spirit of the Federation of Malaysia based on the national image.

“We will play a significant role in national politics to raise the State and national development agenda.

“We uphold the struggle of the State as enshrined in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63), the Federal Constitution and any relevant Sabah rights,” he said.

In that regard, he said the Gagasan Rakyat has outlined three pillars of struggle, namely S which stands for Stabil Politik (political stability), M for Makmur Negeri (State prosperity) and J for Jaminan Kesejahteraan (wellbeing guarantee), which is also the acronym SMJ (Sabah Maju Jaya).

Hajiji, who is also Chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), said the presence of Gagasan Rakyat in the political arena is very significant because it can strengthen GRS together with other component parties.

He said political stability in Sabah is very important to ensure that the State Government can fully focus on developing the State.“Changes of government, including the frequent change of Chief Ministers, have made it possible for the previous government policies not to be continued.

“The process of developing a State requires a reasonable period of time, in addition to the Government’s earnest commitment and dedication to realise the goal of making the State more advanced.

“Sabah needs political commitment to develop at an urgent rate. The key is stability. I believe that with stability, Sabah can be developed,” he said.

Hajiji said the second pillar is to prosper the State which will be based on the state development framework provided through the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ), which was launched on March 29, 2021, which has been able to put Sabah on the right track to develop.

He explained several economic indicators showing the competency of the State Government led by Gagasan Rakyat, GRS and fellow component parties PH Sabah.

This thus shows a very positive momentum in the implementation of the Hala Tuju SMJ.

According to him, the increase in the State Government’s revenue two years in a row – RM5.449 billion in 2021 and RM6.96 billion in 2022 – is recorded in history as the highest revenue collection since independence.

In addition, Sabah managed to record the highest trade at a rate of RM118.1 billion last year, the increase in cumulative investment amounting to more than RM33 billion and positive economic growth prove that the GRS-PH Plus State Government is a functioning and effective government.

Hajiji said the third pillar which is to ensure wellbeing also continues to be the focus in the efforts to fulfil the aspirations and mandate of the people.
