Count me out, says Hajiji

TUARAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor said he will stay out of the 15th General Election (GE15) even though there are requests for him to contest the Tuaran parliamentary seat.

“I am not interested,” Hajiji said in response to media inquiries after officiating the 2022 3rd Annual Conference of Bersatu Tuaran Divisional Seri Sulaman hall, here.

Hajiji who is also Bersatu Sabah Chairman said there is a high probability that his party would field a candidate for the Tuaran seat.

“However, this matter will be discussed further in the GRS Supreme Council meeting tonight (Thursday) before being brought up for discussion with Barisan Nasional (BN) later.

“Before this, in ‘whispers’, it (such arrangement) was ‘okay’ but we have to make it officially later. Let it be official (contesting) when the time comes,” he said.

In this GE15, GRS consisting of Bersatu, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Pertubuhan Sabah Bersatu Kebangsaan Bersatu (Usno) cooperated with BN in terms of seat distribution to avoid clashes and contesting against each other.

However, so far, the seat distribution negotiations between the two coalitions have yet to be decided.

On whether GRS would go for free for all and clash with other party members who previously expressed support for the coalition, Hajiji said that situation would not happen in this GE15.

He said those component parties involved are already considered an associate of GRS which they focus and involve a struggle in the coalition.

“We will be with them to ensure that GRS is a strong party and we will give whatever opportunity it deserves including in this coming GE15,” he said.

Among the GRS affiliates are Parti Kesejahteraan Democratik Masyarakat (Parti KDM), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS),  Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

While the GRS consists of Bersatu, Star, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Usno.

Tuaran is Hajiji’s stronghold as a member of the Sulaman State Legislative Assembly since 1990.
