TAWAU: Sabah ranks 13th out of 15 states in the country in terms of the people’s happiness index in 2021 which ws measured based on physical, social, emotional and spiritual aspects.

State Assistant Minister of Finance, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the index was based on a study by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) last year.

In this regard, he believed that the Women’s Santuni Outreach programme organised by the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) can benefit women, especially knowledge on family laws.

“Even if our (index) is a bit behind, make this a challenge for all of us to improve ourselves so that we can live a better life.

“Take the opportunity to develop yourself, help other families in need and complement each other as one Malaysian family,” he said.

Nizam was confident that the outreach session was a good step to achieve a better index as well as make everyone concerned about the hardships or needs of others.

He said this after officiating the Santuni Wanita Outreach Closing Ceremony at the Tawau Community Hall, here.

Also present were Kukusan Assemblywoman Rina Jainal and Director of Jhewa Sabah, Haslina Ismail.

He said to date, Jhewa has held programmes in 19 state constituencies and treated more than 1,775 people this year and provided legal services to 177 people through legal clinics.

“We want this number to continue to increase because such community programmes should receive attention from all parties, especially grassroots leaders,” he said.

It was hoped that with the involvement of all authorities, especially local grassroots leaders, it would be able to make women to be on par with their foreign counterparts.

Nizam also said that the ‘tagline’ of ‘rakyatising’ services towards the well-being of selected women, was significant, in line with the need to create a prosperous and healthy society spiritually and physically.

He said although the tagline was closer to women, he was sure that men would not miss out on the benefits because when the family is harmonious, it would indirectly brings a lot of good.
