Terrence’s statement on flood assistance insensitive, divisive, says Gagasan Rakyat

As part of Gagasan Rakyat's response to the floods, Lily highlighted the opening of the ITCC Flood Aid Collection Center in Penampang, where over 2,000 sets of rice and mineral water were distributed to victims.

KOTA KINABALU: Recent remarks by Warisan Vice President Terrence Siambun have been characterized as insensitive and divisive.

According to Lily Hiew, Beliawanis Information Chief for Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) N.26 Moyog, Siambun’s comments fail to reflect the current needs and aspirations of the people, particularly in the Moyog constituency.

“Rather than offering constructive solutions, he twists statements to create discord. However, this does not hide the fact that Warisan’s previous administration in Moyog neglected key issues such as flood mitigation, health infrastructure, and education,” said Lily.

Lily also emphasized, “It’s important that Siambun refrains from questioning the efforts of others when the current State Assemblyman for Moyog is from Warisan itself, and Warisan is also part of the Federal Government. In contrast, PGRS Moyog, in collaboration with the state government, remains fully committed to addressing the needs of the people.”

As part of Gagasan Rakyat’s response to the floods, Lily highlighted the opening of the ITCC Flood Aid Collection Center in Penampang, where over 2,000 sets of rice and mineral water were distributed to victims, along with more than 1,000 food baskets and essential supplies. Gagasan Rakyat Moyog also mobilized vehicles to facilitate public transport for flood-affected routes, such as Vista Kiranau, and supported damaged school supplies at institutions like Pusat Anak Permata Negara, Inobong, and kindergartens in Babagon. Community clean-up efforts, supported by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) youths, further aided flood recovery.

Lily emphasized the seriousness with which PGRS approaches education. “Gagasan Rakyat Divisonal Chief, Mandela Malakun prioritize the education of Moyog’s children. In addition to special state government programs like BISBAH, BAKTI, and AKSA, Mandela also introduced incentives for outstanding students in every secondary school in the Penampang district. We have been working to support various educational activities, including Professional Teacher Courses and Co-Academic programs,” she stated. The party also contributed to schools in need and remains committed to ensuring students’ welfare.

Regarding health infrastructure, Lily noted that the construction of a new Type 3 Health Clinic in Penampang, approved under Rolling Plan 3 of RMK-12 with a budget of RM50 million, represents a positive step forward. “This development has been addressed in the State Legislative Assembly, and GRS is also pushing for a hospital in Penampang to further improve health services for our people,” Lily said.

Terrence Siambun should focus on positive and constructive ideas that can benefit the people, rather than making misleading statements. “It’s unfortunate to see a young leader like Terrence, who himself was formerly a State Assemblyman for Moyog, spend his time looking for faults and creating division. If he has genuine solutions, we are open to discussion. But if it’s merely for political gain through negative perceptions, it’s better to refrain.”

“The people of Moyog are discerning and wise. At Gagasan Rakyat Moyog, we prefer to focus on serving the community rather than engaging in perception-based politics,” Lily concluded.
