Bung, Hajiji won’t ‘go to war’, says Joniston

Bung Moktar Radin (right) recently criticised Hajiji Noor and accused the GRS chief of declaring war on Sabah BN.

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah leader has downplayed the friction between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chief Hajiji Noor and his Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) counterpart Bung Moktar Radin.

GRS information chief Joniston Bangkuai said the duo would not go to war as they had Sabah’s best interest at heart.Joniston said Hajiji, the Sabah chief minister, valued his BN partners who are part of the state government.

“The chief minister has the interest of the state and the people at heart.“And I do think that Bung is also a very rational leader who would consider what is good for the state, what is good for the people,” he said at a press conference here.

He said the Sabah government was doing well and the huge budget for next year, which would be tabled next week, showed that the government had worked hard for the state.

“How can we achieve such a huge budget if there is no effectiveness or efficiency among our leaders?

“I am confident that the government will remain intact as the leaders have the interest of the people and the state at heart. It is the best Sabah government we’ve ever had, so why must we disrupt it?” he said.

Bung recently criticised Hajiji and accused him of declaring war on Sabah BN after the latter supported Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin as the next prime minister.

Hajiji, however, said this had been misconstrued and that the agreement between GRS and Sabah BN was now invalid as BN lost in the election.Hajiji added that he hoped Sabah BN would continue to cooperate with GRS to govern the state.
